December Teaching Series

Dozens of movies have been written, hundreds of pictures have been painted, thousands of songs have been sung and a countless number of plays have been performed, all surrounding one story.   The Christmas Story is perhaps the most popular story ever told.  So is there anything more we can learn from a story that we have heard a thousand times?  During the month of December, JHM students will take a new look at an old story.  We’ll go behind the scenes of the Christmas Story, look at the key players and see how their roles in the Christmas events can still impact us today.  Join us, over the next four weeks, as we study together one of the greatest stories ever told: A Christmas Story.

Join us Saturdays at 6:00pm or Sundays at 9:30am in the Event Center.

November Teaching Series

Typically during the month of November we are reminded to be thankful. I mean there is a whole day set aside to be thankful. At least that is what it is intended for. Isn't it strange that the day we are reminded to be thankful we find ourselves in the middle of family arguments, too much food, football on the biggest TV we can find, and an early bedtime to get ready for the amazing deals we get on Black Friday? It seems like we don't spend too much time being grateful during the season that is supposed to point us towards gratitude. For the weeks surrounding Thanksgiving we are going to learn what it means not only to be grateful, but to live a life filled with gratitude that does not allow our consumer mentality to get in the way. Don't miss this!

Join us Saturdays at 6:00pm or Sundays at 9:30am in the Event Center.

October & November Teaching Series

"For the Win" is a series designed for Junior High students that clearly defines what it means to "WIN".  There are a lot of victories that give value and worth to a teenager, but the real win comes from the way we live our lives and what our lives produce.  In the Scriptures we read, "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.  Against such there is no law.  Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires.  Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.  Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other."  Showing the fruit that we read about in Galatians and keeping in step with the Spirit is the definition of winning that we want to grab a hold of.  Over the next 6 weeks we are going to teach students what it means to live "For the Win."  Don't miss this!!

September Teaching Series

It seems like every time school starts back up again the world gets a little crazier. There are tests to be taken, essays to write, and homework to complete. But that doesn’t even begin to describe everything going on in the life of a junior high student when they are back into their social network. Friendships, status, image, identity all begin to bring up huge questions and issues students are forced to navigate. Over the next 5 weeks we are going to work through what it means to approach our social lives in a way that honors God and produces extreme growth in our relationship with Jesus Christ. We are excited to guide our students through our newest series “Facebook: Official” during the month of September. See you there!

August Teaching Series

Questions are something that dominate youth culture today. It's not enough to do something "just because" or to believe something because someone said so. We are a generation who wonders and needs to know "Why?" But even with a great desire for answers, many youth cannot answer the "Why?" to important things they believe and do as Christians.

Over the next four weeks we'll be answering questions like: Was Jesus really who He said He was? Can I trust the Bible? Is giving important? And what does worship really mean? Don't miss the opportunity to go deeper, gain a better understanding and answer the "Why?" behind important things we believe and do as followers of Christ.

June Teaching Series

Kickin It Old School

Have you ever thought the Old Testament to be a bit boring?  If so, you’re probably not alone.  With so much history, numbers, and names that no one can pronounce it’s tempting to just skim over it.  I mean, what could a Junior Higher possibly have in common with people that lived over 3,000 years ago?  Actually, a lot more than you might think!

Over the next four weeks in Junior High Ministry we are going to be “Kickin It Old School” and studying real-life stories from the Old Testament.  We’ll take a look at ordinary people who God used in some pretty extraordinary ways.  There are a lot of important things we can learn through studying these stories and in the end you might just realize you have a thing or two in common with these Old School heroes.

April Teaching Series

Cooties to Cuties

Since the beginning of time, every individual has fallen under its spell.  No one is really sure when it starts or exactly what causes it.  Scientists have determined that it has something to do with a combination of springtime and the junior high age, but don't know much more beyond that.  It's when that guy or girl in your class mysteriously transitions from a potential cootie outbreak, to a down right cutie.  Over the next three weeks, JHM is going to look at the transition for Cooties to Cuties, and see what God has to tell us about healthy relationships.

Important note to parents: We are always fully behind you on your decisions regarding your child and dating.  The purpose of this series is to come alongside you and support you in those decisions.  Our hose is that we would be able to provide your students with a godly perspective on relationships and challenge them to live that out.  From a personal perspective, I don't think any Junior High student should be more than just friends with the opposite sex.  Thanks for letting us partner with you in caring for your student!

'I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.' John 15:5

This past week we started our new series Grown: Growing on Your Own. Our goal is to teach the students how to OWN their faith and to learn how to Read the bible, Pray or Serve in practical ways.

Doug Franklin, one of the apprentices, taught the students how to study the bible. He even gave them an acronym to use when studying:
S: Scripture
Read, write the scripture
O: Observe
Where verse is located? Who wrote the verse? Who were they talking to? What is the context of the verse?
A: Apply
What does this verse mean to me? How can I apply in everyday life?
P: Pray
Thank God for scripture and ask Him to reveal understanding.

"At the last Big Group my Life Group, Livermore 8th grade boys, won the Big Group Games. We had to do different Christmas related challenges, like chugging a carton of eggnog, building a gingerbread house, and lots of other fun stuff. We won every one of those challenges. Our group broke the Dublin girls winning streak of the 2 previous Big Groups, which was another cool accomplishment. The Livermore 8th grade boys did a great job and are counting on being just as strong at the next big group."

WINTER CAMP!!

Theme: AN AWEFUL LIFE

An Aweful Life examines what it looks like to live a awe inspired life of worship based on an understanding of God’s mercy through Jesus Christ.

We were created to worship God and be in awe of who He is. If we are honest with ourselves, we must admit that our lives are an act of worship, however, too often that worship goes to celebrities, leaders in the church or ourselves instead of to the One who is truly worthy. When we look at who God is and the gift of His son Jesus, we should fall to our knees and be in awe that God, in his great mercy, desires to be in a relationship with us. This should cause us to respond by offering all that we are back to him as a living sacrifice, a life that is set apart from the world and acceptable to God. A life lived in awe of who God is.

An Aweful Life takes a look at the lives of individuals who have learned to live each moment in awe of God’s mercy. We will learn what day to day worship is, and seek out practical ways we can offer our bodies to God as a living sacrifice.

Theme Verse:
Therefore, I urge you, brothers an sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.
[Romans 12:1]
