Grown: Read

'I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.' John 15:5

This past week we started our new series Grown: Growing on Your Own. Our goal is to teach the students how to OWN their faith and to learn how to Read the bible, Pray or Serve in practical ways.

Doug Franklin, one of the apprentices, taught the students how to study the bible. He even gave them an acronym to use when studying:
S: Scripture
Read, write the scripture
O: Observe
Where verse is located? Who wrote the verse? Who were they talking to? What is the context of the verse?
A: Apply
What does this verse mean to me? How can I apply in everyday life?
P: Pray
Thank God for scripture and ask Him to reveal understanding.

"At the last Big Group my Life Group, Livermore 8th grade boys, won the Big Group Games. We had to do different Christmas related challenges, like chugging a carton of eggnog, building a gingerbread house, and lots of other fun stuff. We won every one of those challenges. Our group broke the Dublin girls winning streak of the 2 previous Big Groups, which was another cool accomplishment. The Livermore 8th grade boys did a great job and are counting on being just as strong at the next big group."

Theme: AN AWEFUL LIFE

An Aweful Life examines what it looks like to live a awe inspired life of worship based on an understanding of God’s mercy through Jesus Christ.

We were created to worship God and be in awe of who He is. If we are honest with ourselves, we must admit that our lives are an act of worship, however, too often that worship goes to celebrities, leaders in the church or ourselves instead of to the One who is truly worthy. When we look at who God is and the gift of His son Jesus, we should fall to our knees and be in awe that God, in his great mercy, desires to be in a relationship with us. This should cause us to respond by offering all that we are back to him as a living sacrifice, a life that is set apart from the world and acceptable to God. A life lived in awe of who God is.

An Aweful Life takes a look at the lives of individuals who have learned to live each moment in awe of God’s mercy. We will learn what day to day worship is, and seek out practical ways we can offer our bodies to God as a living sacrifice.

Theme Verse:
Therefore, I urge you, brothers an sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.
[Romans 12:1]

Christmas Big Group

Christmas "BIG GROUP"

What?? All JHM Life Groups & JHM students meet together at once to form a "BIG GROUP'

What??? An amazing time of fun, friends, fellowship and a place to be yourself and be accepted!

Date?? Thursday, December 15th

Time?? 7-8:30pm

Where?? Event Center, Cornerstone Fellowship

Who will be there?? All your friends, Junior High leaders and of course, our own Pastor Jay!

Anything else?? Bring your favorite Christmas dessert to share! Bring a friend!

Here is a word from Jessica Davis one of the leaders from the Dublin Group, who won last month's Big Group competition.
"There's nothing like the sweet taste of victory especially after the bitter taste of defeat. Last big group our lifegroup grazed our fingertips to triumph but it was snatched away. We decided then and there that that was a onetime only occurrence. This past big group we came back with a determination of a raging bull. Tragically, the majority of our group was at their scholastic honors night (we encourage success in all areas of life!) However, we overcame! If nothing else, our victory proved that courage, love, and loud voices can conquer any obstacle."
